Hoist & Crane Operator Training Program:
The hoist and crane operator training program is typically four hours long and explains how to properly and safely operate hoists and cranes. It also covers the operator’s responsibility to perform a series of pre-operational and safety checks on electric chain hoists before each shift as mentioned in OSHA 1910.179. This includes visual inspection of wire rope, load chains, hooks, limit switches, warning label placement, and functionality. The program also includes instruction on point of usage inspection guidelines for chain and synthetic slings. Numerous training aids that include good and bad samples of wire rope, chain, load hooks, and slings will be used throughout the program. The first three hours of the program take place in a training area and the last hour should be held in an area where there are hoists and cranes available for hands-on demonstration. Each participant will receive a guidebook and a certificate of completion upon successfully passing the program comprehension test.
Rigging Training Program
The program is typically four hours in duration and explains the planning, documentation, and implementation of a safe lift. Numerous training aids are used such as, rigging gear, good and bad samples of wire rope, chain and synthetic slings, hooks, lifting rings, eye bolts, and shackles. A program guide is issued to each participant. The first three hours of the program should take place in meeting rooms and the last hour should take place in an area of your facility where there is accessible rigging gear, an overhead lifting point, and an object to lift. The program is constructed in the same order as a typical rigging task is performed.
Monthly Hoist Inspection Training Program:
The program is typically four hours in duration and will thoroughly explain how to perform monthly inspections on electric chain hoists as required by OSHA 1910.179 and ASME B30.16. This includes review of applicable codes, documentation, record keeping, 100% inspection procedures for wire rope, sheaves, load chain, load hooks, limit switches, warning labels, and functionality verification. Numerous training aids that include limit switches, good and bad samples of wire rope, load chain, and hooks will be used throughout the program. A guidebook will be provided for each participant. The first 2 ½ hours of the program should take place in meeting or training room and the last 1 ½ hour should take place in an area of your facility where there are several different types of hoists for a hands-on inspection demonstration.

The programs can also be modified to include any unique company policies that may apply to the topic such as special environmental, health, sanitation, or safety concerns.
