OSHA 2019 Fiscal Year Statistics Show Compliance Assistance Record, Inspections Increase

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) 2019 fiscal year statistics show that the administration has upped the ante when it comes to ensuring safe environments for workers. During the 2019 fiscal year, OSHA observed an increase in both compliance assistance provided and inspections conducted.

In total, the administration provided training to 1,392,611 employees during the 2019 fiscal year. That figure represents a record for OSHA in terms of compliance assistance provided through its various education and safety training programs, such as the OSHA Training Institute Education Centers. Such programs are intended to help small businesses detect and rectify potential health and safety hazards in their workplaces.

During the 2019 fiscal year, OSHA also conducted 33,401 inspections regarding possible hazards in the workplace, such as trenching, falls, silica and chemical exposures. The inspections total represents the most for the administration in the last four years. In the 2018 fiscal year, OSHA conducted 32,023 inspections. Inspection numbers had previously not exceeded 33,000 since 2015 with the administration tallying 31,948 and 32,408 in the 2016 and 2017 fiscal years respectively.
